Anne-Li,
I don't know if this will be of any help, but I strongly suspect that JRUN
2.3.3/jre is NOT compatible with Windows 2000. I am currently developing a
web system with JRUN 3.0 and Windows 2000 SP 1, and we have run into a
number of issues with the JRUN 3.0 server just not working properly,
particularly with our third party JDBC tools. I have contacted JRUN tech
support, and they are supposedly looking into some of the issues we are
dealing with, but we have had to reverted back to Windows NT Server 4.0,
with SP5, and JRUN 3.0 in order to continue our development process. Using
NT 4.0 with JRUN 3.0 and our third party JDBC drivers has resulted in no
problems, so far. It was suggested to me by someone in another Java forum
that the new active windows directory concept in Windows 2000 is giving many
third party tools headaches, and perhaps JRUN is one of those third party
tools that has not been properly tested under Windows 2000 (this is a guess
on the part of someone else, not a statement of fact). JRUN tech support
has not answered my question as to whether they have tested JRUN 3.0 under
Windows 2000, so I conclude that they probably have not, otherwise they
would be willing to state up front that they have.
I would suggest that if you are dealing with a client who is wanting to
upgrade their network to Windows 2000 server, that you recommend to them
that they consider testing and purchasing JRUN 3.1, which has just been
released. That may mean some modification of some of their servlet/JSP
code, but I would not even try to get JRUN 2.3.3 to work on a Windows 2000
platform without JRUN's tech support first verifying that they HAVE tested
it on Windows 2000, which I doubt very much that they have.
Good luck!
Celeste

Subject: SV: Trouble installing...
Thank you kindly for your suggestions, especially Jeetu and Bala! I'm sad to
say it is still not working... However, I've spoken at length with my
coworker about the situation and he gave me the wrong impression before
<sigh>. The situation is that he gets to choose Java Developer Kit. He only
has one alternative, the 2.3.3/jre and then it jumps to the
registration-question. The Setup Wizard can't run (at least, none of it
shows). Pray forgive for misleading you before. *Any* clues would be
appreciated!
All the best,
Anne-Li

Hi!
One of my coworkers are out at one of our clients, installing a JRun 2.3.3
on a 2000 Server. The installation goes well up until he has chosen the
directory for the JRun. After that it asks him if he would like to register
JRun; skipping totally the steps of migration, licensenumber and a couple of
other things... This happened the first time he tried to install JRun on
this computer. Afterwards, he tried to uninstall it and removed the
catalogues and such, but the same thing happened again afterwards. He is
logged on with full administrator-rights. The files themselves got installed
in the directory.
I don't know what to do. He can't find any error messages. Can anyone,
please, help?
All the best,
Anne-Li Mell
