I don't want turn this in to a Sun VS. Microsoft/Intel debate, but
I do feel that I must point out a few diffrences. Sun hardware is
always more expensive than Microsoft/Intel, nobody will argue that.
Part of that could be due to volume discounts. But it is important to
realize that solaris(sun's unix os) is very stable and scales extremly
well up to 64 microprocessors. I believe that Sun is really trying to
crack into the mainframe arena with their products with some success.
In short, Microsoft has made a much better product than past attempts,
but when you need more horse power under the hood, Sun or HP make
great mid to upper range servers. Of course the ultimate big engine
still is the mainframe(if you can afford them).
