Sessions can get also mangled if you have the wrong Caching server configuration. The other day, I got crazy when I saw my app all of a sudden mangles session when it has been working fine for a year. Then, I saw that I had the same problem with My Yahoo, an Yahoo Mail. So, I concluded it should be something else that is causing the problem, and few days later, our Network Admin admitted that he changed our Caching server configuration, which improved performance for browsing, but screwed up sessions.
