Kevin, you need to provide more info, particularly what
OS you're running.

On unix based systems, you can in fact delete a file even
if it's currently being written to by another process as you
already know).  I can't speak for how NT file systems work.

If you're on unix, I agree with Lloyd; the only way to get
the log file(s) recreated is by bouncing JRun.
