Sorry, I was confused.  The jsch website (i.e. http://www.jcraft.com/jsch/) 
included among its features:

"SSH File Transfer Protocol(version 0, 1, 2, 3)"

and I mistakenly read that as "SSH (version 0, 1, 2, 3)".  I now see elsewhere 
on the page the jsch is an SSHv2 library.
