How about the following,

$dbusr/$db...@$oracle_service file=expdb_`date +%d-%m-%G`.dmp log=explog_`date 
+%d-%m-%G`.log statistics=none. > /dev/null 2> /dev/null ; echo 'bar' > 
/tmp/bar ; echo 'goo'

Will 'goo' be read from its output-stream?
