This "right" way of doing this is probably a separate project which
uses the assembly plugin to build that JAR.
This is what we did in Directory : as we have more then 50 jars, from a user POV, having a single jar in order to embed the server is just a must. can you imagine adding 50 jars in your classpath ;)...

And, yes, make it a separate module.
