Yes, "matchesSelector()" is supported in all new browsers even in IE9.

Naming is a bit different in each implementation:

  webkitMatchesSelector (Webkit)
  mozMatchesSelector (Mozilla)
  msMatchesSelector (MS)
  matchesSelector (W3C)
