AAMOF, Prototype 2 currently intends to switch from its strategy of extending/compensating HTML element prototypes to a wrapper-based strategy. The API remains identical, but the implementation change eliminates a number of quirks (granted, at the cost of slightly lesser performance in a few edge cases).
