The graphical shell of the latest version of Gnome is also written in JavaScript. Still the entry level for average JS coder to become Gnome developer is pretty steep because desktop APIs differ a lot from what we use on the web.
I think this will also be the case on Windows 8 if they really mean full integration of HTML5 with the system and not just another way to create web app launchers. Do you know any more technical details on this? Which extra APIs will be provided by Windows 8 to JS scripts?
