WebSQL (what's implemented in WebKit browsers) is officially deprecated by the W3 (though I expect it to stick around for a while as there are a lot of sites using it in the wild). The blessed standard going forward is called IndexDB, but AFAIK it's only implemented in Firefox 4+. Here's more info on the state of client-side storage from a presentation I made a few months ago:
