I guess you're trying to get something done that just *needs* to get done, but you're not doing yourself any favours by working on something so big and complex like this that you don't understand. It would be much better to work on much smaller chunks that you have a chance of getting your head round right now. Maybe go off and experiment with writing $.ajax requests with callbacks, and get a feel for how they should work. Once you've understood the little bits, you can start to understand the larger structure.
