Good news, success!
I still don't know what was the problem, but after completely
removing Jaws 11, including shared components and settings, then
reinstalling it, Jsonar and HSC installed fine.
Now I'm having fun with the spot sets themselves. *grin*
Let's start with Boost11.
The spots are working in that I hear boost or output sliders
announced when I issue their keystrokes, and I can page up/down and
hear the effect on my audio. But I'm not hearing dB values as I
adjust the two sliders. Also, Alt+Shift+P is not taking me to the
presets. I get a "window not found, spot failed" message.
Since things are working partially, I'm guessing there must be a
thing or two I can check, somethign to do with how things are
displayed on screen?
I varified that the toolbars are configured as per the jSonar
readme, and X-ray function is off. JSonar itself is not reporting
any problems.
