Hi, Depends what sort of spekaers your using; If they're powered monitors then you can either plug direct into them from the soudncard and control the volume via the soundcard, or use an external passive volume control between the soudncard and the monitors. Personally, when my Alesis prolinear 820 powered monitors are actually working, I use an external passive volume control, which I've now entirely fogotten the name/make, but basically its a nice metal box with a fairly decent sized knob on top to control the volume, two 1/4 inch jack inputs and 2 combi 1/4 inch jack/XLR outputs to take to the inputs on the monitors. Currently I'm using a pair of large Quadril speakers with an old HiFi amp whilst I'm trying to get the Alesis repaired again (for the second time). I also understand, that if you are using passive monitors, then you can purchase purpose designed monitor amplifiers to use with them.
