I'm curious as to how people are initializing the servletContext (or
application object). There are occations where i'd like to have it
initialized with certain data before any servlet or jsp sees it. I'd prefer
not to have to check in each page, or be forced to have an initialization
page. I'm aware of some of the global.jsa (from global.asa fame) attempts
but these dont seem to be uniform accross servlet engines.

Also, on a similar note, i'm wondering how to specify a application
subdirectory (in JRun in particular, but just in general as well). From
what I've read, similar to ASP, you can set directory tree and that becomes
the application scope. Just not sure how to do it.

One last thing deals with packaging. When an application is done, what are
some solutions to an elegant packaging (i.e. do you just distribute jars,
directory trees, generated servlets as opposed to the .jsp source etc.)
I've seen some mention in the 1.1. spec of such things but from what i
recall it doesnt go into detail. It would be wonderful to pack it all in
one jar, tell the servlet engine where it is and just go with it.

Thanks for the help.

Steve
