Yep, it will work as long as the servlet engine does not throw out your
"startup" servlet, which it can legally do.
The best way to encourage inclusion of better support sooner, rather than
later, is to send feedback saying that "application start" and "application
end" event processing is really important (along with any other suggested
changes you might think are useful) to the feedback mailing addresses on the
repective specifications:
SERVLET: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
JSP: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Mail to these addresses goes into the official spec review processes, and is
thus more likely to have an impact, than mail that is sent to JSP-INTEREST
or SERVLET-INTEREST. As always, constructive suggestions for *how* to
include such support are generally more helpful than comments like "I need
feature XYZ".
