Thanks Dave for such a prompt reply.
I agree that my concern was groundless. Actually what had happened , the
server I ran my sample JSP on didn't interpret the JSP tags and just ignored
them and hence the code showed up in the view source.
Next time I will make sure to think twice before pushing the panic button.
