I just figured out some stuff about this whole color coding emacs JSP
thing. The html-helper-mode has forked; the original author has a version
that
is different than the one you referenced. I don't have the info handy here
at home but the original guy's one is on www.xemacs.org.

With the combination of Xemacs*, html-helper-mode.el (from the original
author), multi-mode.el, a utility function set called auc-menu.el you can
create multi-mode editing that mixes the Java mode with the HTML helper
mode. The <% %> delimiters tell emcas which mode to use.

The only thing that I can't resolve is that the font-lock highlighting
is all done in the understanding of one or the other of the modes. That
doesn't seem to combine. YOu can see this by switching it on and off with
M-x font-lock-mode commands from different parts of the document.

Tab indenting and stuff works in java blocks and html-helper commands work
in HTML blocks, in fact the right most menu changes from Java to HTML as
point moves in and out of the blocks of each type.

This seems to me to be a good thing. From what I can see the ~saint guy
(from Italy) is going for an integration of JSP/ASP/PHP processing into
html-helper-mode without multi-mode etc.

The nice thing about the multi-mode is that it can be used for any
two(don't know about more?) syntaxes in a document- the author developed
it to integrate Prolog and LaTEX according to the comments.

Not to knock the saint's efforts but I'm planing on using this method.

*multi-mode uses some functions(I think, I don't grok elisp at all) called
first second and third that GNU Emacs doesn't seem to support.
