Thanks for the lot of input.
I have fixed the problem. I just removed the OUT statement that was before
HTTPSession creation. It works fine.
It is also mentioned in the Servlet API reference document as
"To ensure the session is properly maintained, the servlet developer must call this
method (getSession) before the response is committed."
