Greetings, list-users.
My name is Jim Driscoll, and I'm currently filling in for the web team
while they're on planes to Orlando, headed to ApacheCon... Recently,
the Sun listserv has been used by a number of third parties to (usually
unwittingly) send viruses to the mailing lists run on Sun servers.
We intend to fix this ASAP. We will do this by stripping out
attachments before sending them out to our list users. I'm aware that
this has generated some discussion on this list already, with people
coming out both for and against such a proposal. This decision was made
at a higher level: All Sun mailing lists will no longer forward
attachments. Any message will containing a non-text mimetype will be
truncated before being sent out to the list at large. The script to
handle this is currently undergoing testing and tuning, and should be
completed and installed sometime in the next week or so. In the
meantime, please do not open any attachments you receive from this list.
Thanks for your patience while we address this matter.
Jim Driscoll
Manager, J2EE Core Engineering Team (currently acting for Connie Weiss,
the Manager for the Web Engineering Team)
