I have been using BEA Weblogic Server for couple of months and it really
rocks! It is really expensive but this kind of stuff is ment for companies -
not for inviduals who want to add some functionality to their homepages :)
WebLogic also seems to be quite stable (so far). It is pure Java app. server
so I have been able to use it on Linux and NT. I wouldn't even consider
developing web app. without a proper application server.

If you are interested about WLS, check out: http://www.beasys.com
There is also cheaper alternatives, like Orion: http://www.orionserver.com
It is free for development and non-commercial deployment..

JSP-centric approach is ok with small sites, but if you are building complex
web applications EJB stuff is must (imho)!

as far as the app servers are concerned, they are expensive, the companies
that produce them are not always friendly to developers (they want an
expensive 'development' license), and they are still somewhat buggy. there
has been a lot of consolidation lately and i'm not so sure that has been
good for reliability. i am waiting for that market to settle down a bit and
experience some real competition before i lay down 10k per cpu..

just some thoughts..
