Jason Hunter's text, Java Servlet Programming (O'Reilly), discusses
multi-what quests at some considerable length, even giving code to handle
just you are interested in doing.

ORO.inc also has an add-on Java Utility class that includes some ftp
functionality. According to the documentation, "FTP provides the basic the
functionality necessary to implement your own FTP client." The web site is
www.oroinc.com.

>From your description, it sounds like Jason's text better suits your needs.

Good luck.
