Go out and shoot his ATL/COM side and bring some JAVA seeds with you and
plant them in him. {:)

Anyway, I am a C/C++ - ATL/COM veteran and of course, 'am now a JAVA brewer,
like anybody else in this mailing list. One of the many reasons why your
boss needs to be convinced is, JAVA is easy as in ABC. Why? A:Many of the
advanced features in VC++ that are difficult to implement are just plain and
ordinary JAVA features, which, don't take as much effort and difficulty to
implement.

Real life scenario:
I recently (as in today {:) implemented a solution in my client's client's
bandwidth meter applet to make it animate continously and still be
responsive even if the applet is busy trying to send and receive data in
order to realistically tell the user connection's bandwidth. This, together
with the page's needs to display 'ticker clickable messages' and display an
animated rotating world GIF make the task seems to be difficult to solve
(ATL/COM wise). But, since I am using JAVA, my life had never been easier. I
implemented multi-threading in my applet in just half-an hour (make it an
hour after testing/bug fixing).

It is always tedious to implement such solution in ATL/COM since you will
need to handle thread synchronization and/or resource locking explicitly.

I hope the above adds up to your 'JAVA seeds'.
