I have to side with Robert on this one. He didn't ask about DNS or
cross-country skiing, he asked about a subject that most professionals would
agree is reasonably close to the topic of this list. Questions about
comparing JSP to ASP seem well within the purview of this list to me, so why
should a simple request for an ASP book recommendation be shouted down?
Besides, this list has fielded questions about servlets and even general
Java programming with no complaints. It's not like Robert asked some newbie
question about how to get the user's birthday using ASP. 'Web Professionals'
should be able to distinguish truly off-topic from slightly related, and not
insist on an extremely narrow definition of what's appropriate on a
wide-audience mailing list. They should also know that the proper way to
deal with what they believe is an inappropriate posting is to send a PRIVATE
email to the offender, rather than adding to the unnecessary traffic by
posting to the whole group. (You can call me a hypocrite on that point, but,
you know, he started it :-).
