Mike, I experienced some problems with Apache 1.3.12 for Windows NT and
Tomcat 3.1.
To solve them I did as follows:
a) Make shure you choose directories with no blank spaces in their names.
Try something like
c:\bin\apache
c:\bin\tomcat
and you will avoid some problems.
b) Install Apache and be sure it is working properly. It will publish the
default "hey im here" page showing version, links to docs, et al
c) Install a java VM to run Tomcat.
d) install Tomcat, decompressing all of its folders.
e) Run Tomcat using the "tomcat" shell script. If your environment is
properly set you will be able to start it with the "tomcat start" command.
f) To make shure Tomcat is working, open the url "http://localhost:8080" in
your browser. You will see the Tomcat presentation page.
g) Every time Tomcat runs it generates a file called "tomcat-apache.conf" on
its "conf" folder. It is an Apache configuration file with all parameters to
load the Apache-Tomcat servlet module and do the right virtual directory
settings.
Modify the "httpd.conf" file in the Apaches "conf" folder and add the
following line:
Include "c:\bin\tomcat\conf\tomcat-apache.conf"
(please check all directory names, I don't have it installed to verify
it)
h) Download the Apache servlet library, "ApacheModuleJser.dll" and place it
in the Apache's "modules" folder.
i) stop and re-start Apache to make it load the new configuration.
If all settings are ok you will be able to activate servlets through Tomcat
using the Apache virtual directories listed in "tomcat-apache.conf".
