Hey guys,
I have gone to the great depths in ASP and I know sessions are bad in IIS
versions < 5.0 in an extremely stressful scenario (like 240 simultaneous
connections and server is executing very 'session dependent' & 'Activex
stored in session' routines).
Such tends to down the said versions of IIS. I know how difficult it is to
manage objects lifetimes in a stateless environment and then come sessions,
which is a solution to give stateness to server-side processes. This is our
lab results when we were developing a high volume hit enterprise site for
one of the sub-sites of Encarta.
IIS 5.0 + WIN2000 comes with great self-healing and better memory management
in that I haven't seen any symptom of what I mentioned above. But then I am
using and more keen on JSP now. I do believe JAVA is the next evolution of
C++. But then I need to know if anybody out there has gone to great depths
in JSP and has experienced (nor never experienced) what I mentioned above. I
do believe JVMs (and their garbage collector) will take an excellent job in
the said scenario but I need to know in production environment.
I know JSP is pretty new kid on the block, so, just in case anybody knows
how it will behave in such stressful scenario, then, please do tell me. Such
info will help me define any architecture that I will lay out in the future.
To test this kind of scenario, an automated stress test tool needs to be
used. Is there any free tool in existence for JSP ?
Thanks for any info,
-gerardo
