I have a similar environment, and actually I am evaluating Jturbo
(http://www.jturbo.com).

I also began to evaluate freeTDS (http://www.freetds.org).

Jturbo is an excellent product, but is also quite expensive. We should thank
Microsoft's police, they never heard about JDBC. This make third party MS
SQL JDBC drivers more expensive than a Sybase database SERVER...

JDBC-ODBC works, but... you will not be able to retrieve meta-data and it is
not exactly the fastest way to go.
