I did a lot of research for this for the JSPBuzz newsletter
(http://www.jspinsider.com/jspbuzz/index.html)
and found out a few interesting facts.

OK
1) it is being release in general public beta in september.
2) shipment date for windows 2000 is expected in first quarter 2000
3) People have already (and are selling seats ) for classes...gads
   talk about hype!
4) ASP+ does make ASP look a lot more like JSP
-for instance they have added more directives,
-they now allow session management using urls
-they are allow c# to be one of the scripting languages
-they are making ASP+ more friendly for server farms
   - in a nutshell it looks like microsoft learned a few
lessions from JSP and are implementing features to make
     ASP more robust in general
5) ASP and ASP+ can run together on the same server!
6) ASP+ is a total rewrite of ASP (code will break, however,
since ASP and ASP+ run on the same machine, you run your old site
while upgrading to the new, so transition is still easy. ALSO while
code will break between asp and asp+ the breakage factor should
be relative low it seems (in 10% range)
7) OH the Performance of ASP+ is rated at 250% better than ASP
8) They are offering more server side functionality to make auto
generation of html pages easier for content authors
9) I haven't check into this, but they seem to have released their
own form of the Tag libraries.

the list goes on and on.

and of course the one language it will not support.... you guessed it JAVA

I think microsoft wants to bury JSP with this release, of course they will
not succeed, but this development will force us to keep on our toes as JSP
developers. I personally feel ASP+ is a major threat to JAVA acceptance
since I feel JSP is one of JAVA's best bets for really breaking out into
main stream development markets. With ASP+ out alot of shops will now
hesitate to make the jump. Also of course ASP+ was going to happen, so it
should be no surprise to us, what I am curious about is How Sun will react
and what the future plans for JSP will be. STAY Tuned and be active!
