because jsp is interpret on the server,and javascrpit is interpreton browser,so how 
you choose to attrive your task
deponds on your task.if it just to indicate whether the input box is filled,i suggest 
you use javascript,if you use
jsp,it is too slow.if you task is mort complicated,something like  indicating  whether 
the date filled accord to some
rule about db,i think you should use jsp.
