I had a similar problem with something similar.
This is what I would try, hope this help.
1. Alias your servlet
2. Call you servlet from the browser
3. Have it display your variable on the bowser by
doing some type of out.print.
4 On your JSP page have <%page session = true%>
then call you JSP to check the value.
