I'm coming across this problem myself Casey. At least with Microsoft it is
easy to work out which drivers to use. I'm finding trying to get a Java
driver (in my case for SQL server) a bit of a minefield and some of my
colleagues are getting into a tiz about the licencing (have to admit, not
looked into the licence issue I'd hazard a guess at my colleagues
over-reacting).
Also there are worries about ease of portability between different driver
vendors. For example if we bought com.bloggs.SQLServer.driver to use on
windows and then com.matey.cheapo.driver for use on Unix do you know what
the likely code impact may be? Happy to admit that using a different
database will change the code but using a different driver for the same
database shouldn't have any impact should it? What has your experience been
with this?
Is there anything stopping us using the sun jdbc:odbc bridge driver for
simple database activity (single threaded, running server side stored
procedures)?

There are several really good JDBC driver which will run around 500.00
This cost is minimal compared to learning costs of using ASP if you don't
already know asp. So if you have experience in Java but none in ASP then
factor that into your consideration.
If you already know ASP then this will not be an issue.
But if you want to use JSP then there is a issue that is driving this. If it
is related to portability, code reuse or leveraging existing skills. Then
500.00 is a small price to pay relative to amount of time or effort you will
lose to these other issues.
