OK, something that REALLY needs to be said here. I've been online for
something like 10 years... now, that's longer than the internet in it's
present form and I remember when email didn't even exist and how big a
ddeal it was when you could finally message accross between AOL and
Compuserve... point is, I've been on a lot of lists and message boards
for a long time now. For any of you out there that think that this
off-topic problem is new or exclusive to our list, it isn't, nor has it
ever been... and ten years ago people talked about somehow fixing this
problem and behold, here we are today still complaining. (And it's a
good bet I'll still be writing these emails ten years from now).

OK, so what have we established here. We've established that these long
strings of emails further cluttering our mailboxes are ineffective in
fixing the problem -- that isn't gonna change now, trust me on this.
Your words from god aren't going to bless all of us and suddenly we'll
all be enlightened... I tried it, never worked. So, what did I do? I
stopped complaining until I come up with a plausible solution, then I'll
voice it. If nothing else, I create less spam for people. I would like
to remind everyone that ever word of code they right is dependent on
hundreds of computer topics... netscape, explorer, all of the sub-lists
of java, html, sometimes javascript, your server programs, the nitty
grittyy of your computer, NT, Linux, Resin, etc... must I really go on?
Do you really expect everyone to be on hundreds of these lists at the
same time?

Now, for those of you who don't believe me, I look forward to the day
when your company hands you a set of software to debug that is written
in 4 languages you don't know and has no documentation and is running on
a server that you have never used which runs on a computer with an
operating system you aren' familiar with and then you have two choices:
1) log onto all of these lists and get told how stupid you are for
asking dumb questions or 2) ask on here and get told how stupid you are
for asking on the wrong list.

So please, lets be friendly here and civil and lets just try to answer
what we can. I've always looked at lists as a bunch of people who work
in the same field and may have info to share. After all, there is no
list for what to do when your client decides to be an ass. Who do you
ask then... or when you have to do something noone has ever done
before... Well, you get my point, lets all just be professional web
programmers and leave the egos at the desk.
