IMO the most important thing for a JSP "newbie" to learn is what
*is* JSP and what *is not*.

One person posted earlier saying there's
only one apparent mailing list about JSPs, why don't we have lots?
Somebody else posted saying "there's lots of lists for ASP, when
the JSP community gets sorted, there will be lots for JSP" (ok, I'm
paraphrasing, and probably badly. Apologies if so.)
It might even have been the same person.

The *JAVA* community is huge - there are STACKS of lists, on-line
resources, howtos, faqs and tutorials on Java. The thing to
remember here is that *JSP* is but a part (and a small, if important,
part at that) of enterprise java.

My recommendation for people trying to learn "jsp" is learn Java first.
Want to connect to a database? Try it in a Java console app, then
cut and paste your code into a jsp page. Got a Vector problem? Ditto.

Perhaps people are getting hacked off seeing messages over and over again
that are basic (insert your favourite Java technology here) problems.
Remember that JSP is packaged as an *ENTERPRISE* solution. I wouldn't
expect somebody who didn't understand pointers in C to be developing device
drivers, and I wouldn't expect somebody who didn't know Java to be
developing JSP solutions.
