I suggest that you remove all of your own copies of servlet.jar (at least from
the class
path and from JDK/jre/lib/ext) and only use the one bundled with your servlet
container.
What you see if definitely a mismatch problem, so maybe the version delivered
with your
container (JRun, right?) is the old, incorrect one. If you make sure that only
the version
bundled with the container is used, it should work.

Another thing you can do is to test your app with a different container, such as
Tomcat
(<http://jakarta.apache.org/> or our LiteWebServer
(<http://www.gefionsoftware.com/>
