let me clarify that WLS 5.1 also supports WARs and WEB-INF descriptors.
However, WLS 6.0 provides "on-the-fly" updating of these descriptors through
the use of web tools and stuff.

However, it is a pain and there's no way around it in WLS 5.1.
Incidentally, it's not something that changes every day, every hour. Once
an application is run, the servlet list is rather static.
