*sigh* Use a database connection pool, preferably one set up in your
application container. Along the way you'll want a JDBC driver for MS SQL,
because the JDBC-ODBC driver is much to be feared and shunned.
Actually establishing the connection is up to the implementation of the JDBC
driver, as the actual connection URLs and server configurations for them can
change.
