With out describing the scenario it's difficult the envisage ur point....
anyways here is my solution ...

assuming the selected option is a string value stored in a variable --
sel_opt

The bean which u r handling these options should have a private variable by
this name itslef(sel_opt) or some other name also will do.... and also a
public setter method to this variable as public void Sel_opt(String
value).....

in ur jsp page u initialize the bean asusual like this...
<jsp:useBean id="MyBean" class="....." scope="..."/>

and use the bean after retriving the selected optin from the user as:

<jsp:setProperty name="MyBean" value=sel_opt />

this will set the bean's sel_opt property appropriately....

above syntaxes might have few errors... bear with that .....
