I was through this list made aware Tomcat as a reference implementation
is not always suitable for deployment. After that I have read numerous
benchmarks where Tomcat always ends up last or maybe second last. I am
therefore looking around for an alternative. Maybe I could convince our
manager to invest in a commercial server like Resin or JRun (which
people here seem to like), but I should also look around in the free
server segment.

Without having looked further into them, I seem to have found 4 free
servers for (Servlets and) JSP:
- Bajie Http Server (http://www.geocities.com/gzhangx/websrv/)
- Gefion Software LiteWebServer
(http://www.gefionsoftware.com/LiteWebServer/)
- Jetty (http://jetty.mortbay.com/)
- tagtraum industries jo! (http://www.tagtraum.com/jo.html)

The problem is that the free servers compare themselves (in benchmarks
etc) with different commercial servers, so its very hard to compare the
free servers.

- Does anyone know of a test/benchmark of free servers?
- Has anyone here made such a test?
- If I would like to conduct such a test myself, do you have any tips?
(I have never run a performance/benchmark test)
- Are there any more servers I should know about? (Preferably with SSL
support)
