As long as the ArrayList isn't going to be accessed in more than one thread,
there is no reason you can't use it. You should see some speed
improvements, since every call to the Vector had to be synchronised, even
though there was only ever one thread accessing it. The speed advantage
would be more apparent on a Java 1.1.x VM, since they have done a lot of
work to speed up synchronization in the Java2 VM's.
