Aftab,

I am new to JSP/Java as well, so take this reply with a grain of salt, please.

I have found through my research and coding the various examples I have used from
numerous books/online references that JSP, Servlets and Beans work hand in hand for
the most part. If one is doing enterprise level work, one would probably use EJB as
well. Also, don't rule out using the various tag library offerings either--they can
make your coding much more productive while learning I've found. Later, you may even
wish to build some of your own, specialized tagLibs.

You **can** code almost everything in a JSP page but it is a very kludgy way to do it
if there is database connectivity and all the other normal business logic needed for
any given commercial site. Trust me, I know this because I am currently migrating a
Cold Fusion/Oracle:ODBC app to JSP/Oracle:JDBC and it simply did not make sense to do
it all in JSP. I used a servlet for DB connectivity and a few Beans for some of the
other business logic. This to me seemed a better way to build the application as it
keeps the presentation and business logic as discrete modules. It is now about 3/4
finished and I am glad I chose to employ servlets and beans in addition to JSP; it
just makes for more elegant and easier to maintain code, imho.

However, at the end of the day, it still seems to me a personal choice whether one
uses just JSP, or a combination of the other technologies. Hope this helps to clear it
up a little...

Hi,
It's very important to have a small idea about servlet before learning JSP.
