Hey Ruchi,
I've actually done code for that already. I dont have it anymore
cause I did it when I was working as a consultant. But it is relatively
simple code. Look inside the Oracle 8i documentations on your computer.
(They have it offered as a CD as well) There is a good code sample.
Becareful with BLOBs though. A BLOB in an Oracle 8i db could be up to
4GBs(?!). We never really bothered to figure out whether this meant 4GBs up
front or just up to 4GBs. You have to get a DBA to tell you that (and even
ours were telling up different info. :)
Another alternative is to have the files physically stored and a DB
that has a location to that file. If that doesnt work for you, and you have
to go with BLOBs, let me know what you find on the Oracle 8i CD. It was
quite easy from what I remember. There is already a BLOB type that you can
use. But the trick is that you have to create a BLOB in the DB before using
it because it is just a pointer to a BLOB object.

Subject: storing image as a BLOB in oracle
Hi,
I am having trouble storing an image as a BLOB in Oracle 8i.
This is a two-step process in my case.
1)I retrieve the image from the client side to the server's side through
Hunter's
MultiPart request servlet class.
2)Now I have to store this image into the BLOB column of an Oracle table.
I have managed to do 1). 2) remains a problem.
Could somebody help me out?? It would be great if you could mail me the code
or point to
a site which has a solution. I am on a deadline ;)
Thanks,
Ruchi
