I would recommend running Far Manager
for many tasks including browsing
.zip, .jar, .war files.

Downloadable from http://www.rarsoft.com/

I had to set it up additionally a bit:

I have also downloaded
unz???xN.exe and zip??xN.zip from
http://www.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/
and unpacked them to get Info-zip
zip.exe and unzip.exe (and some extra stuff
i do not need)

after putting this zip.exe and unzip.exe
into my path i pressed 'enter' in the
far manager on the
c:\program files\far\addons\archivers\infoZip.reg
and answered 'yes'.

after that far becomes able of going
into .jar, .zip, .war files like into
directories. you can read text files
there, copy them to non-archives,
even edit files, delete files and
create new files like you can
do with plain directories.
