Someone else recommended the following:
Buy either:
JavaServer Pages
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- by Hans Bergsten
- excellent book
- super contributor to this newsgroup!
OR
Web Development with JavaServer Pages (2nd ed.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- by Duane Fields, Mark Kolb, and Shawn Bayern
- also an excellent book
- Shawn Bayern is a heavy contributor to the Jakarta TagLib newsgroups
- 2nd ed. covers JSP 1.2 and Servlets 2.3
- available as a PDF e-book from www.manning.com (the publisher). If you
buy the e-book, Manning will discount the future purchase of the hard copy
by the price of the e-book. And, the last time I checked they were selling
the hardcopy for 30% off. The e-book version is great for searching online
and having on a laptop. But, you really should buy the hard copy too.
If you were to buy only one, I'd say get Hans' book because of its
excellence and because of all the commitment and time he spends helping
answer questions on this newsgroup. If you haven't been paying attention
and noticing his contributions, do a search in the archives -- he deserves
kudos! But, given the option, I'd buy both.
