However, as someone who has recently been in a similar position, I would suggest looking into the Java certification exams. If you've got 2 and a half years experience as a Java developer, you should be able to pass the Sun Certified Java Programmer exam with little or no extra work. The Sun Certified Java Developer exam is one possible follow-up.
