The new Dreamweaver MX release has added significant new JSP support, and I think they've made great strides in the right direction. Of course, there are still many enhancements I'd like to see, but I understand the issues and tradeoffs involved. Often, that means that a feature that you or I might want will not get attention right away -- early adopters are in the minority and there are many other enhancements that the majority of users are anxious for.
I've worked with (not for) Macromedia since Dreamweaver 1.0, and your experience doesn't reflect mine. Macromedia listens very well to clear and persuasive arguments for enhancements. And, they definitely don't have the "know-it-all attitude" that you inferred. Of course, like any software developer, there are many stakeholders, and time and resources limit what they can do. Your issue may not have been addressed for a number of issues, including lack of clarity about what you wanted, how many people would benefit, etc. One thing I've learned in working at a software company is that customers frequently don't understand the hard tradeoffs that must be made. Even when a customer says that they need something, frequently something else is higher on their list. And, often, features rushed into a product for a customer don't get used for many months. Please e-mail with me about Struts-related features that you would like to see in Dreamweaver -- I'll be glad to help in trying to get them addressed. Personally, I'm about to begin working with Struts and may experience many of the problems you're experiencing. And, a heads-up on limitations you've found in using Dreamweaver with Struts would be much appreciated. Steve -----Original Message----- From: M. We told them about the terrible limits of their DW extension model 2 years ago when it was apparent that Adobe's GoLive had a much more robust DHTML extension framework.
