if you are using weblogic server , it is comming with a type 4 driver which you can use in your application. Always performancewise type 2 driver is best but it need some client side setting to be done. so better go for type 4 driver provided you r not using connection pool directly through your client program. If that is the case go for type 3 drivers like RMI driver
