You wouldn't know where I could find a site or some documentation on any
pros/cons of the latest versions of tomcat and java? This guy is a tough nut
to crack and some of the API's available in the later versions are worth
using now...

Sounds like a good setup. I don't see why you would have any problems
with an Apache / Tomcat / MySQL install.
