deal since we are at a design phase and I need to convince my design team
that we should go for integers as primary keys.

very good question.
i haven't checked the details of it anywhere but tested it with 10 million
records on my system PIII, 128MB.
there is a noticeable difference when the primary key is an integer and when
it is a varchar.
it gave me a difference of an average of 5 seconds when selected 4000
records in similar conditions and similar queries.

anyone else did any significant test, pls mail back
