You can use application scope variable which will hold the logged in users
count.
i.e. When ever the user makes a successful log-in, you will update this
application scope counter. And when user log-out again its updated.

But when user closes the browser window using "x" button on top right
corner, you need to write some script or so to capture this. I am not sure
of this condition.
