pageContext is an object that changes for each .jsp page. Each .jsp page allocates a pageContext as one of the first things it does.
So if you put an attribute in there, it will last until the page ends, either because the response has gone back to the browser or you have done a <jso:forward .../> It also has some getters for getting the request, response, etc objects.
